Military Tactics
I saw some good ideas on a different topic and wanted to consolidate them all in one place. So if you have an idea for something post it here.
Re: Military Tactics
I have an idea, the classic testudo, if we're getting destroyed on the battlefield, make a box for us to fit in with materials we've brought and hide in there, maybe possibly even dig under them or something

Thats a good Idea, we would dig a trench then cover it up if we sneak the enemy won't know were underneath them. Hopefully jeb adds shields (roman ones please )

Just what I was thinking, except now, we're going to start trainings, once the instructors are fully briefed.

I'm thinking about having a few (maybe four) training sessions in order to teach tirones obedience, the chain of command, and to get an idea how effective each one is at combat. I'd like to have a small number of commands that each legionary knows and can react to instantly. Something like this:
Quote
"FALL IN!" - The Legate gives the order to stay close and follow him to a location. Legionaries fall in behind an optio or centurion, and the optios and centurions fall in behind the Legate and Tribune.
"STAND YOUR GROUND!" - The Legate gives the order for his men to stand their ground, and to not give a single inch of it to the enemy. Legionaries stop moving and stay in one position, grouping around their officers to keep them safe.
"ATTACK!" - The Legate gives the order to attack the enemy. Legionaries are permitted to charge at the enemy, but must stay close to the group and may not run off the battlefield chasing the enemy.
"RETREAT!" - The Legate gives the order for his men to fall back in an organized fashion, if he can see the battle is lost and there's no point in staying. Legionaries are expected to follow their officers back to base or wherever the Legate wants to retreat to, and may not just disperse run for their lives. Order must be maintained.
"SNEAK!" - The Legate gives the order for his legionaries to sneak (shift key), in order to not arouse suspicion from the enemy. This can be done while retreating, in order to stay hidden, or to surprise the enemy in an attack.
Those are five basic commands I think anyone can learn, and remember by heart. They're pretty much self-explanatory. Tirones must be trained to respond to these commands in a moment's notice, and to follow their commanding officer's orders with unwavering loyalty.
Once a Tiro finishes his four training sessions, there will be a quick ceremony for them, and they will be promoted to Miles. Then, they are expected to play on the PVP server.
With these commands, and the way they're set up, it actually might be better to go back to cohort-style, just with a smaller number of cohorts...maybe two. Just to make it clear who's in charge. I also have ideas for an archer division, with different commands for them.

Re: Military Tactics
Me'n'Defo were playing Rome Total War and I thought to myself, why don't we use traditional tactics <---- RIGHT HERE BRA
Maybe assign a specialty? I'm not sure, clearly just an idea we could try to incorporate so we could seem more... 'roman' thanks

Re: Military Tactics
the pre marian formations wouldnt work so well considering were all legionnaires and such and such however! we could do legion tactics such as switching of the troops where when we clash with our enemy some soldiers hold back while the ones fighting are low on health or are tired of the fighting switch with the ones holding back so that they can recooperate and fight again at the next switch

Re: Military Tactics
What you described max is close enough to the maniple system that it might as well be it, just instead of having hastati, princepes, and triarii we just have 2-3 lines.
